Friends, I get various comments regarding ACL surgery on different forums. One of the comments I have seen many times is “What needs to be done to remove the scar that appears after ACL surgery?” What should we do to make it disappear and nobody knows that I had surgery?
Friends, the size of the scar of ACL surgery depends on where you have got the surgery done because at our place the mark is very small. And the sutures we use for healing are also of very high quality. And this is the reason, the scar left is not so big at our place. It depends on your body type that how prominent will be the post ACL surgery scar and what colour it would be because friends, the healing of the scar is different for every person. For some people, the scar embosses and heals, for some, it matches with the body, and nothing is known. For some, the scar becomes of black colour, and for some – purple. You cannot change the body type and genetics of everyone. Hence, sometimes the scar can appear big. Friends, people ask me if there is any tube or gel, which can remove the scar if we apply it? So, friends that does not happen. And I recommend not to use any such kind of tube or gel. One of my patients used some gel on her friend’s recommendation and got some allergy, which enlarged the scar. Then we treated her for the allergy and somehow controlled the scar. So, friends, please don’t use any tube on your scar, based on rumours and the internet. It can cause you trouble. It takes 15-17 days for the ACL scar to heal. Till 1 to 1.5 months post that, applying anything on it except water and soap may lead to allergy. It can not only make the scar more reddish but can also lead to infection. I suggest that a lot of fake items on internet claim to remove the scar. That is completely false and a rumour. Please do not believe it. And keep faith in your body for ACL healing. If your doctor and your body type are good. And the scar is small then be hopeful that it will go away with time. But you cannot change your body type.
