Greetings friends, The ACL ligament problem is a very common thing.

In this, the upper bone femur and lower bone tibia – the rope joining the two, which is called ligament ACL, is broken. Operation of this ligament needs to be done because, when the ligament is broken, you can’t run or play sports. Patient has to face a lot of problems in this situation.

Most of the patients that come to me are of young age;

Army fighters and experts of physical training and they come and tell me that they want to live life like before… means they want to run, play and jump like before. For this, they require reconstruction of ligaments.

Once the ACL ligament is reconstructed, then a person can lead a life just like before. Not only this, after ACL ligament reconstruction, you knee becomes exactly as it was earlier and Meniscus and cartilage also are safe from getting damaged. If ACL is not treated on time, then in future you might get knee arthritis, Meniscus can tear and cartilage can be damaged. Once the ACL is done, then the first or the most common thing that comes to patient’s mind is when will I start playing games and start running? Friends, I am sharing a scale with you, with which you can check yourself that when you will be able to run and when you can start sports. For this, you have to take care of a few things. First is strength.

Check if your legs have got proper strength or not. To check strength, see if you can lift your legs straight with 2Kgs or 3 Kgs weight. Then we can accept that your legs have got strength. Second “S” is Stairs. Can you climb the stairs and walk down the stairs normally again? And if you don’t face any difficulty in climbing up and down the stairs it means that you have cleared the send “S” too. After Strength and Stairs, my 3rd “S” is Soreness. While walking the whole day, do you experience stretching and swelling in the legs? Do you feel pain in the legs?

If yes, then there is more time to start playing games. You need to strengthen your muscles more. If you have gained strength, you can climb stairs and if there is no pain or soreness. The, we will move on to the 4th thing – friends and that’s skipping. Start skipping…on soft surface or on grass. By starting skipping, you get strength training. Impact and load bearing capacity can be known. When you do impact training, you come to know I your knee is capable of bearing such load. Benefit of impact training is that because of skipping, your leg muscles get strong and you can also ensure that if you start playing games, ligament tear will not happen again. Friends, all these things need to be taken care of.

Complete strength training should happen, you should not have problems on stairs. There should be no soreness and swelling in legs muscles,

When you do a little bit of jogging. And along with that, you should have full practice of skipping. When these 4 “S” are clear, then you can move on to the 5th “S”. Which is Sports. Friends, this is my 5 S formula.

Apply this formula on yourself and understand when you are fit to play games. Many people also think that if I use all inside instead of bio screw, I will play games earlier. Or if I do something else or eat something special, I will play games earlier. Friends, don’t rush to start playing games. Because many times, those who start playing games early, have chances of re-tear. If you start playing games before the muscles are coordinated, then there are chances of ligament tear again.

So, till your knees gain full strength; till there is no soreness in the knees. Till you do the skipping and stairs exercise?
